USHER'S NEXT GIG: LINGERIE DESIGNER

Usher is a lingerie designer. Apparently he thought you might know that. At the Dutch lingerie designer Marlies Dekkers' show in Paris yesterday, the singer told WWD, "You may have heard that I might be launching a lingerie line for men and women." We don't know about WWD, but we sure hadn't heard. Usher said some of his designs appear in the yet-to be-released video for his new joint, Trading Places. We can imagine what his ladies' lingerie might look like, but a men's lingerie line leads the mind to wander. Ursh, you have us at the edge of our seats.

SNEAK PEEK | BLEU MAG F/W '08 ISSUE

Here's your first look at Bleu Magazine's iconic BLACK BOYS ARE BEAUTIFUL issue.

"The Black Boys are Beautiful feature is a tribute and a reflection of the struggle black male models have faced on their long journey to being acknowledged in this fickle and superficial industry," says Antino Angel Crowley, Fashion Editor for Bleu Magazine.

The issue features three of the brightest new faces at RED models on the cover. Our faves, Shawn Sutton Marcus Lloyd & Dominique Hollington join five other of the hottest male models entering the industry today. Some of which have already made their mark - blazing the runways and print pages.

On stands October 7th.

PHARRELL PREFERS ROLLS-ROYCE OVER BENTLEY

Pharrell recently did an interview with Motor Trend and he talks about why he loves the Roll-Royce so much.
“every stitch and every tiny detail are brilliant. It’s traditional and consistent quality. They spare nothing. Also, you can drive it just how you’re feeling. It can be a luxury vehicle or you can really put your foot in it and it darts out like an arrow. I had a Bentley but it wasn’t for me. At the end of the day, a Rolls is a Rolls.”

RACHEL ROY DESIGNS FOR GREY GOOSE

Rachel Roy has partnered up with vodka maker Grey Goose, for her to exclusively design a cocktail dress for the company’s spokesmodel for all Grey Goose sponsored events.

Roy’s creation is “derived from the classic heritage and discerning taste of the luxury vodka brand,” according to Grey Goose. Roy notes, “In keeping with this tradition, my design matches the timeless fluidity of the little black dress, with a hint of the iconic, signature blue to capture the effortless elegance of this occasion.”

Rachel Roy will also incorporate eco-friendly materials into her fashion line in upcoming seasons to come. Rachel will donate 100% of the proceeds to an organization in Africa called Orphan Aids Africa, which helps orphans in Ghana.

NAOMI THE NEW FACE OF D&G???

Is Naomi Campbell the new face of D&G?

That’s the news being whispered about in the industry right now.

The supermodel has been seen sporting a variety of custom dresses from the design duo of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana recently at London Fashion Week.

A source tells us:
“[Naomi] and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been in secret talks for a while about making her D&G’s next face. They have had a relationship that spans decades and now the plan is for [her] to be their official muse and ambassador. She’ll be at the shows and will star in their worldwide advertising campaigns. An absolutely huge deal is on the table. The final deal is about to be signed off any day now.”

MILAN'S DISAPPOINTING DIVERSITY QUOTIENT

Milan Fashion Week wrapped up today, and we have continued tracking the model diversity quotient of shows over there as it did in New York. Ironically, runways in the nation that brought us an all-black Vogue were not only less diverse than New York's but disappointingly white:

3 major shows, Giorgio Armani, Marni and Jil Sander had no Black or Asian models at all. Gucci and Prada both had only 1 black model. Of the ones we surveyed (and in all fairness, we can't break down each and every designer) the only show to impress us with diversity was Bottega Veneta with 4 Black models and 1 Asian. Fendi, Versace, and Missoni all cast only one black model as well.

Can we point out that houses like Armani, Gucci, and Prada , we are big enough to get the girls that they want, so it's unlikely they were forced into using such white casts because they lost a battle with a show in a competing time slot. Paris starts tomorrow, so maybe we'll see a mix of girls there?

3SIXTEEN | FALL COLLECTION 2008

Hypebeast just put me on this cool clothing line called 3sixteen which specializes in casual and contemporary clothing for the urban hipster. They have just released their Fall Lookbook which features this dope a** Hooded Blazer and Button-Up jacket. The Button-Up jacket features an aeroknit lining, a scuba neck hood, contrasting side gussets and ribbing. The athletically designed body of the jacket creates an interesting union with the refined usage of subtle colors and striped materials. The Hooded Blazer also includes the use of the striped fleece but keep things on a higher level as it references the classical stylings of your typical blazer. All in all, the foundations have been established and the wheels in motion for a successful fall campaign from 3sixteen. . Definitely check out the rest of the fall collection over at 3sixteen.com

JAY-Z COVERS TIMEOUT NEW YORK

They’ve ruled the city- and told us why this city rules” Jay-Z along with 39 other celebs, socialites and business czars, appear on the cover of Time Out New York’s 40th Anniversary collector’s issue. The list also includes, Derek Jeter, Mayor Bloomberg, Elliot Spitzer and Tina Fey.

In the article, Jay discusses his wife, Beyonce, and working with Kanye West on Blueprint 3. He even manages to give his rap nemesis a compliment:

You’re the only rapper on this list. We were considering Nas but have this 13-year rule: People on this list had to have had an impact in the last 13 years. And Illmatic was 1994. Should we have included him?
Jay-Z: Ah, wow! [Laughs] That’s a tough question. [Pauses] Yeah, only because of the impact of that album, when it’s considered one of the best albums ever created, you have to document that.

How about Kanye? Has he earned it yet?
Jay-Z: He’s from Chicago, but he’s close. I don’t know if he’s had that one album that’s moved the entire culture, but he’s hit it three times in a row. He’ll be on every list one day.

Are you guys really teaming up for Blueprint 3?
Jay-Z: Yeah, actually. We’re partners right now. Starsky and Hutch right now.

And B? What was your first meeting with your wife like?
Jay-Z: I can’t answer that question. [Laughs] Come on now.

RIHANNA TO DESIGN CLOTHING LINE

Rihanna has casually mentioned she'd like to design a clothing line several times. But Wednesday at the Gucci show in Milan she confirmed she's actually going to do it. “I can’t say when it will be released, but it’s definitely going to happen,” she told WWD. “I’m not one to rush into anything. I want to take my time.” That's nice, young RiRi. We won't resist. We'll just offer a few recommendations:

• Don't try to sell it at Saks because people will just laugh at you.
• Make it exclusively for Topshop if you can. It sounds better.
• Don't try to sell it at Forever 21, because that's too easy.
• Please resist the temptation to make horrendously embellished over-the-knee boots.
Carrie Bradshaw couldn't make feather/ruffle-assed skirts happen years ago and your VMA performance can't now, so please don't pretend people actually want to wear them.
• Don't branch into skunk-inspired hairpieces.
• If you have a fashion show, perform at it. And invite us.

Fancy Feet: Sick of high-tech sneakers? Next January you will be able to purchase elaborately embroidered and decorated kicks from Gola in collaboration with Couturier Christian Lacroix.

SOLANGE JUST CAN'T GET IT RIGHT

Like so many others, Solange Knowles has been making her rounds at Milan Fashion Week. She hit up the Emporio Armani showcase (afterall, she is the Ambassador of their denim line) over the weekend wearing this mess. I guess she didn't notice her feather headband totally clashes with her hair. Hey Solo, if you're going to wear a feather headband - CONTRAST! But A for effort though. She had good intentions.

CHANEL IMAN BRINGS GUCCI BACK TO BLACK

Jourdan Dunn broke down walls last season at Prada, becoming the first black woman to walk for the house in ten years, and today Chanel Iman had her moment. This afternoon, she walked at Gucci, modeling two looks, becoming the first black woman to walk for the house since the Tom Ford days ended in 2005 and current creative director Frida Giannini took over.

NOEL GALLAGHER BITES BACK | JAY-Z DISS

Noel Gallagher hits back at Jay-z after Jay-z took a swipe at him at Glastonbury Festival as well as in his new joint, Jockin' Jay-Z! I have to admit, I had a little angst for posting this. As much as I Stan for both Jay and Bey, this is some funny sh*t.

BREAKING NEWS | "808'S AND HEARTBREAK" PUSHED-UP

Kanye Reports Live From Hawaii Right Now:

"I CHANGED MY ALBUM TO NOVEMBER SOMETHING CAUSE I FINISHED THE ALBUM AND I FELT LIKE IT.. I WANT YALL TO HEAR IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE."

Can't wait to see what those two are cooking up :-)

GET FEARLESS

Like, seriously! You absolutely must go out and cop Jazmine Sullivan's debut album, Fearless. It's so dope. A great mix of styles - a little retro girl group, lots of soul, and outstandnig vocals. Being the first female in four years to top the urban charts with a debut single for her infectious Need U Bad is telling of her talent. Attesting to Jazmine’s dynamic musical talents, Missy Elliott said: “Jazmine stands out from all the other artists because she sings with so much conviction! But not only is she a great singer, she's a great writer. She's not just an artist, she's a performer! She's just as great live as she is on records. And you don’t get that from a lot of artists today.”

Check out some of my favorite joints from the album:

KANYE TO COMEDY CENTRAL???

Kanye West is set to star in a new show on Comedy Central that can pretty much be descibed as Hip Hop meets the Muppets. The project, which is under consideration for the 2009 season, would feature music produced and performed by West as well as fellow rapper Rhymefest, both of whom are serving as executive producers on the pilot, alongside Jimmy Kimmel. West also hosts the pilot; the idea is to have a different celebrity guest host for every episode, similar to the setup on the original “Muppet Show.”A half-hour pilot has been shot for the project, tentatively titled Alligator Boots.

BEYONCE | THE $80 MILLION WOMAN

Forbes recently released their annual Worlds Best-Paid Music Stars list. This is not the sameas the “Highest Earners” list we previously reported on. The top ten artists for the list include some pretty big names including Gwen Stafani (#10 with $27 million), Madonna (#5 with $40 million) and Justin Timberlake (#4 with $44 million). Coming in second place, Beyonce. She took in over $80 million dollars last year with her albums, shows, endorsement deals and movie appearances. Beating out the R&b/Hip-hop Queen for the top spot was Sting’s The Police who took in $115 million due to their farewell tour and album.
