scene: CHRIS BROWN ATTENDS MILAN FASHION WEEK

Chris Brown has been making his rounds at Milan Fashion Week. He was spotted on the front row at Vivienne Westwood wearing a pair of the designers,' plaid & polka dot, saddle shoes from their Men’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection. He was later seen arriving at the John Richmond showing rocking a Fur collar jacket, belt and shirt all from their Fall/Winter 2009 menswear collection. He's attended a handful of shows this season, including Costume National Homme and a private event for Missoni. "I might check out some of the couture shows in Paris too," he said. (The couture shows in Paris immediately follow the men's presentations there.) My only question.. where did this interest in fashion come from suddenly?? Thoughts?

Prada, fall 2010.

The most wonderful time of the year is finally upon us: Men's Fashion Week! The fall 2010 shows began over the weekend in Milan, and the overall trend seems to be that designers are playing it safe for yet another season, after sales of menswear declined almost 10 percent in 2009 from the previous year. Buyers don't want anything too crazy, since flash is still out. However, the beauty of menswear is that even when designers think they're playing it safe, the clothes they put on the runway would still look absurd on average dudes.

Prada presented a collection that would make anyone feel right at home in Harvard Yard, with tweed blazers to crew neck pullovers and casual slacks. The "preppy" collection shown Sunday was so normal it might have risked boredom were it not for the designers fashion genius. Thus simple crew neck sweaters had an almost plunging neckline and were cropped above the waist to reveal the classic blue shirt underneath.

David Agbodji appears in the Steven Klein shot campaign for the Spring 2010 Calvin Klein collection. I love this campaign & the limitations it has pushed. The images  are an obvious celebration of black, with such a deep sense of sophistication and emotion behind them. David is represented by Request models, and this is his campaign debut. I'm absolutely sure it won't be his last. Art direction for the campaign by Fabien Baron.

Eva Mendes and Jamie Dornan are back for another season as the faces of Calvin Klein. While the duo wore lingerie and underwear for the fall campaign, they are modeling denim this time around, which doesn't necessarily mean they are more covered up. Rather, both are shirtless and grinding on the sand covered in baby oil. Steven Klein shot the ads, which will appear on large billboards at the corner of Houston and Lafayette Streets and at the High Line. Steamy..

footwear: RAF SIMONS S|S 2010

Raf Simons kick starts the new year with some new high-top sneakers from their Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. While adding new colorways of their memorable Velcro 3 strap ($747) and back pocket ankle ($860) sneaker, the new line-up also includes a unique multi buckle sneaker ($1,148). If you’re interested, these sneakers should be available soon.

footwear: BALENCIAGA S|S 2010

While Lanvin who receives most of the attention around the luxury sneaker trend, I’ve personally been a fan of Balenciaga’s contribution to the mix for the past few seasons, this coming season being no exception. Nicolas Ghesquière has turned the french fashion house into a force to be reckoned with since his takover in 1997, and continues to do so with menswear not being left aside. The past few seasons have seen Balenciagas sneakers kept to mainly monotone colour sets, this year things are changed up a little, with a mixure of materials also playing a role.

collection: DIOR HOMME S|S 2010 AVAILABLE AT LUISAVIAROMA

We’ve already mentioned a number of Pre-Order’s available for pending Spring/Summer 2010 collections. Now Luisaviaroma has released Dior Homme’s next season collection too, of which most of is available now. Of particular interest given the ongoing debate over Kris Van Assche’s success with the brand since taking over at the helm. I think this is without doubt Van Assche’s best collection yet for Dior Homme. It’s simple and clean, yet iconic enough to adorn the Dior Homme name. The footwear, as previewed before is the best yet, and the jeans as always offer a vast selection of great washes. See what’s available from Luisaviaroma after the jump.

Casely-Hayford is without doubt one of our favourite new brands, the coming together of two generations in Charlie and Joe Casely-Hayford is the perfect mix of today and the quality and tailoring of the past. Here’s a look at Spring/Summer 2010, again, its a collection to make everyone else stand up and take notice.

“It’s been an amazing year. Being approached by several top international retailers was a major endorsement of what we are doing. Collaborating with Swaroskvi on their first ever menswear project along with Lanvin and Phillip Lim has been really exciting… and working on this new project with John Lewis has been so fulfilling. I don’t think there’s been anything like it before – it’s essentially a celebration of ‘the Best of British’ under one umbrella. Each season my father will be designing a complete wardrobe and collaborating with some of the most highly respected British heritage brands for John Lewis to create new unique garments. We received some of the samples just before Christmas and they look really strong. The first items should be in store from the end of February. Lulu inviting us to take part in London Fashion Week as part of Fashion East was obviously also another highlight of the year.”

kicks: DIOR HOMME MID TOP SNEAKERS

Expanding beyond their high tops and low tops, Dior Homme introduced a new Mid Top sneaker model for their Fall/Winter 2009 shoe collection. This white Dior Homme Mid Top sneaker ($700) is one of the best colorways from that collection. Featuring white leather with contrasting sliver & light brown stripes and a grey suede toe, these sneakers give off a much sought after luxury appeal.

It's been a rough year for Kanye West. Especially after that little fiasco at the VMAs. But a man can only stay down for so long. Like a phoenix rising from the ash, so doth Kanye — or at least, photos of him. West modeled for Bathing Ape's spring 2010 look book. The long and familiar relationship of Kanye and BAPE continues with their upcoming release which focuses on a distinct style of the brand. With a combination of Bape and URSUS Bape, the brand introduces a new style including belts as wells shirts, work trousers, tees, varsity jackets and even colorful hoodies which they are known for. To celebrate Art Basel, designer Jeremy Scott’s highly coveted adidas Originals by Originals collection will be available in its entirety for a limited time. The safari-inspired f/w 2009 adidas collection is comprised of footwear, outerwear and apparel, each piece a work of art itself.

LANVIN METALLIC PRINT & SUEDE SNEAKER | S/S 2010

You’d think we’d be sick of Lanvin’s signature sneakers by now, but the fashion house continues to find subtle changes and new colourways to keep us interested. As with the Spring/Summer 2010 collection of Kris Van Assche, Lanvin’s collection is also available for Pre-Order at Luisaviaroma. This metallic print and suede mix high cut, is my favourite of the pack to see its release gradually over the next few months.

design: SWIZZ BEATZ x CHRISITAN LOUBOUTIN COLLABO SNEAKERS

Kanye paved the way for the hip-hop high-end luxury sneaker collaborations with his Louis Vuitton. Now rumor has it that music producer Swizz Beatz has been working with French designer Christian Louboutin on a sneaker to be released in 2010. Now word yet on the price range but considering his most recent designs run from $1k-$2K they'll definitely will be more on the expensive side. It looks like Swizzy is up next.

Lanvin's latest Spring/Summer footwear collection doesn’t disappoint with a range of high and mid-top sneakers in their familiar designs. I love that they resist the temptation of many fashion brands to over embellish their footwear and instead focus on design and premium fabrics. With a relatively minimal design and a silhouette that is both slim enough for fashion wear, but chunky enough to authentically reference the sportswear that inspired them they have employed high quality calfskin and silk grosgrain ribbon to elevate them to true luxury status.

A LETTER TO RIHANNA ABOUT HER SPIKED-OUT SHOULDERS

Dear Rihanna,

You have triumphed this year, this is clear. Sure, Lady Gaga exploded with all those No. 1 hits and leotards and that weird teacup. But you overcame and spoke courageously about an abusive relationship, released a new album cleverly titled Rated R, and somehow turned strips of toilet paper into a performance outfit that was actually reasonably supportive. Your love of spikes has not gone undocumented, but recently we've noticed your growing affinity for placing increasingly scary ones on your shoulders. Clearly you're an independent woman who needs neither the shoulders of others to lean on nor others leaning on your shoulders. But frankly, we're concerned, because one day a moth could fly in front of your face and you could whip your head to the side suddenly and get an earring stuck on those things. And then you could be walking around bleeding from the lobe, and okay, Gaga made that look fantastic at this year's Video Music Awards, but we'll still write you blogletters - no more spikes. You enjoy pantsless looks — why not try some fur or feathered garters? When it comes to fashion, safety first, please. This goes of course without mentioning that they look absolutely terrible.

scene: PHARRELL WILLIAMS IN CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN STUDDED SNEAKERS

Why Am I not surprised that Pharrell Williams is one of the first to debut the Christian Louboutin Studded Louis Sneakers ($1,200) from their Spring/Summer 2010 shoe collection. These sneakers feature silver-toned spikes covering the toe and the sides with off-white cream laces. Everybody weigh in, what do we think about these sneakers now that you’ve seen someone rocking them?
