runway: JOHN GALLIANO SS10 [PARIS]

John Galliano's spring 2010 show in Paris was staggeringly beautiful. Bubbles fell from the ceiling and popped into puffs of vapor. The runway was lit with red laser lights, creating a tunnel effect much like his also staggeringly beautiful fall 2009 show. This was Galliano's version of Sunset Boulevard (dialogue from the 1950 movie opened the show). "It came from a research trip to L.A.," Galliano told Style.com. "I went around the old houses of Hollywood and imagined how stars like Tallulah Bankhead, Lillian Gish, and Mary Pickford lived." Spring 2010's ubiquitous boudoir feel was present here, too, in sheer dresses and lace insets. The collection also included khaki jackets, beaded trenches, and skinny belted blazers.

runway: LOUIS VUITTON SS10 [PARIS]

According to WWD's Twitter page, "Grace Coddington whooped with delight at the first sight" of the Afros Marc Jacobs sent down the runway at Louis Vuitton's spring 2010 show yesterday in Paris. You'd think by now people would know not to be late to a Marc Jacobs show, but no. Guests were still milling about on the runway when the first model walked on; she had to push them aside to do her walk. "This is like ghetto fabulous!" Grazia exclaimed. Jacobs describes it as “Street clothes, embracing the hippie-cyber, tribal-punk world.” Aside from the Afros, models wore glittery anoraks, fringed shirts, satin corsets, and denim hot pants over lace-up leggings. None of the shoes were high. Rather, cowboy boots with feathers hanging off of them came with kitten heels, and moccasins were set on metal "peg" heels. But the handbags were truly special.

runway: LYNDSEY SCOTT

Lyndsey Scott is taking Europe by storm. After starting her spring 2010 run in New York at Vera Wang, DKNY, and Monique Lhuillier, she continues to land on major runways in London, Milan, and Paris. The 18-year-old — who first made headlines last season by being the first black model to score a Calvin Klein exclusive — booked Pringle of Scotland, Jaeger London, and Topshop Uniquein London, and appeared at Gucci, Blumarine, and Alberta Ferretti in Milan. And she wowed audiences at Prada by being the only black model to walk that show. The New Jersey native is in Paris right now sealing the deal on her rising-star status, already strutting at Giambattista Valli and Costume National, and even closing the Loewe show.

front row: PRINCE HITS PARIS FASHION WEEK

Prince perched on the front row at YSL in a typically understated gold sequinned jacket that he designed himself - take that, Pilati! - he looked bemused, but not entirely uncomfortable, with the frenzied attention that surrounded him.

A PREGNANT JOURDAN DUNN WILL HIT THE RUNWAY

Model Jourdan Dunn's comp card is included in Women modeling agency's show package for the spring 2010 season. This means the 19-year-old is hitting the casting circuit, even though she's five months pregnant with her boyfriend's child (word is she's having a boy). Oh, models. She must barely be showing, if at all. Like Gisele. We look forward to seeing her work it next week!

KANYE AND AMBER TAKE PARIS BY STORM

Kanye West is currently overseas for Paris Fashion Week and made an appearance at the the Roberto Cavalli opening boutique party with girlfriend Amber Rose. Kanye’s heart t-shirt is from Japanese brand Comme des GarconsPlay series.

I digg from head-to-toe.
Those Raf Simons kicks Mr. West is wearing are ridiculous!

They are really shaping up to be my new favorite couple. And Ms. Rose always has on a good shoe.

What's the verdict ?

OH I KNOW THIS BRUISED HIS EGO!

Kanye who? That’s what designer Vivienne Westwood was wondering after the rapper introduced himself to her during London Fashion Week. Yeezy rushed over to Westwood after her runway show and gushed that he’s a fan - but after he left, the British fashionista had to ask her friend who Kanye was, shrugging, “I think he’s famous in America.”

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT | MIGUEL ANTOINNE

It seems that this truly is the year of the gentleman, which became ever more apparent after seeing my close friend, Miguel Antoinne's A/W 2009 collection during New York Fashion Week. His 47-piece collection featured an array of looks that he describes as the “bad boy ganster” type from the 1920’s. With an equestrian edge on a military structure, Miguel Antoinne definitely designs with the gentleman in mind. His work has a refined, modern elegance. I LOVE the attention to fit and detailing. He used zippers as trim in places totally unexpected, leather embellishment; and has these oxford shirts with large stand-up collars that are to die for. Inspiration falls into his lap intuitively from the looks of it. Be on the lookout as he is bringing excitement and new life into the under-served market of menswear.

HAS THE "OBAMA EFFECT" COME TO BRYANT PARK?

Courtney, Marcus, Domonique and Shawn backstage at Duckie Brown.

This season we've seen a sprinkling of color on the runway but for the most part it's the same tokenism. Designers will say that their concept for this season was Victorian or a summer in Paris, giving them the shield to say : "whites only." It's sad that among the ranks of the many new great black male faces that now exist in New York still go unseen for the most part. The New York Times weighs in on the issue in article featuring several of our favs. Check it out...

MARC BY MARC JACOBS | FALL 2009 COLLECTION

Marc Jacobs’ work within his Marc by Marc line has the New York-based designer focusing on heavy garment layering, highlighting a wide range of textiles that includes argyle, corduroy, tweed, and even velvet. Taking a spin off all your thrift shop favorites, the collection does well in combining a vintage technique into contemporary designs, in essence allowing for an endless amount of stylish combinations with a timeless, luxurious look.

VIDEO | KANYE LIVE FROM PARIS FASHION WEEK

Kanye has a special message for his fans.

PARIS RUNWAYS MUCH MORE DIVERSE THAN MILAN

The Mlian menswear shows might have been disarmingly whitewashed, but in Paris they were noticeably more diverse. The batch of shows revealed Fall 2009 collections by Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Yohji Yamamoto, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier and many more, utilizing faces of many different shapes and colors.

WTF?! REAL HOUSEWIFE OF ATLANTA SHOWING AT FASHION WEEK?

Sheree from the Real Housewives of Atlanta will reportedly show her fashion line at New York Fashion Week next month. We can't believe we just wrote that, but Page Six reports she has completed her line, "She by Sheree," and plans to subject us all to it. We find it hard to believe she managed to finish it, considering that, on the show, ex-Project Runway contestant Michael Knight came on to point out all her mistakes and she looked as amateur as we imagined, not lifting a finger. There's no word yet on when or where this collection will walk or, for that matter, who actually designed it, but Sheree's not short of cash to put on a show. She's taking her ex-husband, former New York Giant Bob Whitfield, back to court because she's not satisfied with the $1 million she got in the divorce settlement. You know things are bad when designers like Betsey Johnson and Vera Wang are dropping out of the tents and a Real Housewife is showing.

FRESH FACE | ATAUI DENG

Looking at Ataui Deng you probably immediately think Alek Wek. That's because this 17-year-old is Alek's niece! And she's already making quite an impression. Born in Sudan, Deng came to New York from Texas just weeks before New York Fashion Week and signed with Trump Model Management. Then she went directly into fittings for Proenza Schouler and Zac Posen. But when Fashion Week ended in New York, Deng flew back to Texas to finish off her semester at high school, skipping Fashion Weeks in Europe. But those select appearances were enough to make an impression on Steven Meisel, who personally requested to see the stunner for himself. We hear V magazine is requesting her for spreads, too. Turns out Alek isn't the only one in her family graced with model genes.”

CHANEL IMAN'S #1 FAN...

Instead of walking Yves Saint Laurent yesterday, Lily Donaldson took a seat front row — after the first look came out. The house's Fall face Naomi Campbell was also in attendance, and "hooted and hollered" when Chanel Iman appeared on the runway.

ANOTHER MOMENTOUS OCCASSION...

Vivienne Westwood debuted her new Red Label collection last week at London Fashion Week. I particularly loved everything about it. Often times designers fail as the try to convey the great drapy-sexy clothes thatWestwood pulls off - which is why she is an Icon of modern design and fashion. The lady herself lacks no spunk of her own, showing major leg on her salute with model Jourdan Dunn who is making such a name for herself. Firstwalking with Naomi - now this. Rock.
