runway: LOUIS VUITTON SS10 [PARIS]

According to WWD's Twitter page, "Grace Coddington whooped with delight at the first sight" of the Afros Marc Jacobs sent down the runway at Louis Vuitton's spring 2010 show yesterday in Paris. You'd think by now people would know not to be late to a Marc Jacobs show, but no. Guests were still milling about on the runway when the first model walked on; she had to push them aside to do her walk. "This is like ghetto fabulous!" Grazia exclaimed. Jacobs describes it as “Street clothes, embracing the hippie-cyber, tribal-punk world.” Aside from the Afros, models wore glittery anoraks, fringed shirts, satin corsets, and denim hot pants over lace-up leggings. None of the shoes were high. Rather, cowboy boots with feathers hanging off of them came with kitten heels, and moccasins were set on metal "peg" heels. But the handbags were truly special.

We have to admit, that unlike a lot of bloggers, we are not spending every waking moment in the tents. Partly it's because almost everything pales in comparison to what we saw from Marc Jacobs on Monday. He just seems to be operating on a different level. Here's a look at the full collection.

MARC JACOBS OWNS THIS TOWN

When you get to the Marc show, you suddenly feel like you don't know what to do. You have an invite, a seat (maybe), your camera and a purpose, yet, the sight of 4,000 or so people crammed into a stadium after a day of normal shows in normal 200-person spaces and packs of photogs stalking the front row / growling at each other could make even a pro a little nervous...

For the second season in a row, Marc Jacobs started his show promptly, just ten minutes after its scheduled start. When "Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats. The show is about to begin."

Through swinging mirror doors, the models walked the mirror-lined runway from every direction, funhouse illusions abounding. But show tactics aside, with Marc, it always comes down to the clothes — the bunched-up, layered, bangled clothes, sparkling, plaided, striped and sheened. Collapsed glittery top hats in pink and oranges and shoes that crossed gladiator-style with geisha sandal. As Gershwin played in the background, Marc took us in a whole new direction.

The looks were kind of complicated - lots of bunched up skirts, tons of stripes, obi-like waist wraps instead of belts, very shiny materials, collapsed glittery top hats in pinks and oranges, and shoes that were a cross between gladiators and geisha sandals. He blasted forward with a collection that was unerringly focused, dynamic, and jam-packed with great ideas.

HIGHLIGHTS

-Fashionistas Jennifer Lopez and Victoria Beckham -- sporting a newly short 'do -- sat together in the front row admiring the designs.

-Jay-Z and Kanye West hopped on the runway and made a beeline for backstage as soon as the show ended. West's ex-fiancee Alexis Phiffer followed close behind.

-Marc donned a man-skirt for his walk down the runway.

LOUIS VUITTON DAMIER GRAPHITE COLLECTION

Fashion house Louis Vuitton gave us a sneak peek of their Damier Graphite collection a few months back during the men's Fall '08 show. And from the looks of things it seems that designer Marc Jacobs has taken the popular canvas print to higher heights - adorning bags, wallets, ties, belts, footwear and pretty much everyting else he could get his hands on. This collection is an instant classic in our eyes. The understated and subdued tonal gray/black pattern makes for a timeless accessory that will compliment any of your dopest attire.

KANYE'S COLLABOS: WILL THEY COME OUT???

On Wednesday, Kanye West was spotted dipping into the GAP headquarters here in New York before blazing the stage in the final Glow In The Dark concert at Madison Square Garden. We’re guessing he’s not picking up a new wardrobe—although he’s made it clear in numerous interviews that he fucks with Gap white tees on the regular. Could this mean that there's a GAP collabo in the works?

These days, it seems like every designer and company wants to get down with ’Ye. But with a slew of collabos already in the works, it seems unlikely that all of them will see the light of day. Marc Jacobs, Creative Director of Louis Vuitton, absolutely loves Kanye! He is all about ‘Ye, and we all know ‘Ye is all about Louis Vuitton. According to WWD, he will be designing a footwear project for the brand. As far as Kanye’s priorities, we’re guessing this is at the top of the list, and the probability that you will see this coming out in Fall of 2009 is strong.

Will It Come Out? More Than Likely

Kanye worked with Ksubi designer George Gorrow in 2006, saying, “I love the sunnies Ksubi has produced over the years, and it’s an honor to collaborate with them on this first installment of Pastelle frames.” The glasses are supposedly going to drop in October, which is right around the corner, and are set to feature a LE gold pair that will clock in around $2,000. Yeah, right. We’re not saying they’re not coming out, but it will be next spring before any kids can push their hands up against the window and say, “I’m gonna get the red ones.”

Will It Come Out? Any Day Now

Unfortunately, Kanye has made a couple off steps; being a little over excited to the point where timing the hype with the drop date is getting all twisted. The Air Yeezy was scheduled to drop in October 2008, then February, then summer. Ye’s words from a recent freestyle sum it up perfectly: “Nike already don’t like me.” I'm guessing this is friends and family for at least a year, definitely not forever.

Will It Come Out? Probably Someday

Kanye is an innovator, which no one can deny, but unfortunately any designer is looking at two years or so before his first line can go from sketch to completion. After trying to drop Pastelle with a number of fashion labels, he has decided he’ll be doing it himself. But what happens if his tastes change again? He’s already over the glow in the dark thing. I was hoping that this could get a “Soon” rating (afterall, the site is already up), but in reality you’re looking at a year or more.

Kate Moss in NYC!!!

If you're in New York, keep your eyes peeled on the streets for Kate Moss. So far she's been spotted talking to Robert Duffy, business liason to Marc Jacobs, near the Marc Jacobs store on Mercer Street. Naturally, rumors have begun swirling about her doing a campaign for Marc or possibly Louis Vuitton.

She was also seen leaving a building with a face full of makeup. And to all 'faithfuls' out there who know Kate, knows that she doesn't do her daily grind all done up like that. So I'm guessing it was a photoshoot.

She may be on the cover of Vogue's August issue - our sources told us a couple of weeks ago that Kate was seen on a photo shoot with Grace Coddington, Vogue's fashion director and later, another occasion with Vogue writer Plum Sykes.

Hmmmm.

Fashion's Most Fabulous Turns Heads at CFDA Awards

The Council of Fashion Designers of America held their 2008 CFDA Fashion Awards, last night in New York City. Consider this fashion's equivalent to the Oscars. A rather big deal, to say the least. Taking place at New York's Public Library, the evening became something of a tribute to Yves Saint Laurent, with many attendees, like Naomi Campbell, wearing styles from the late designer.

Among the A-list guests in attendance were favs Victoria Beckham, Vogue Editor-At-Large, Andre Leon Talley and honoree, Marc Jacobs, just to name a few.

Eva Longoria and Tony Parker effortlessly parlayed the press line into an instant media circus as they hit the red carpet - and Lil’ Kim looked dare I say... great in her heart emblazoned purple number.

Pharrell featured in Vogue Hommes

The Spring-Summer '08 issue of Vogue Hommes International features Pharrell Williams.

"For me, comfort is essential," Pharrell tells the magazine, describing a wardrobe full of oversized jeans, army fatigues, truck driver caps and "hundreds" of sneakers. "I'm an absolute fan of Ralph Lauren. I don't even count the Purple Label and Black Label clothes in my closet anymore. I have a weakness for the Japanese brands Comme des Garcons and Watanabe.
