N*E*R*D AND LUPE FIASCO COVER COMPLEX MAG

Complex Magazine officially posted their Aug/Sept Style and Design collector’s edition issue cover, which features N.E.R.D. and Lupe Fiasco, as well as celeb artists KAWS and Todd “REAS” James. Complex wanted to fuse music and art in a new way, and did so by letting KAWS “take hold” of Pharrell and the gang, while REAS hooks up Lupe with a sunny backdrop. Even better, KAWS did more custom artwork, check out two of his in-issue pieces after the jump.

JAY-Z, N*E*R*D AND COLDPLAY DO THE PEMBERTON MUSIC FESTIVAL

Explosive back-to-back sets by Jay-Z, N*E*R*D, and Coldplay capped the closing day of the inaugural Pemberton Festival, an ambitious weekend long event in a dusty British Columbia (Canada) mountain valley that, minus a few snags, was a tremendous success.

Pharrell continued to spaz and dance around providing one of the most energetic preformances of the festival. And Coldplay never disappoints. There is nothing that can be said about this band that hasn't already been said. With the new album out they had a load of new material with a highlight being the performance of their new single Viva La Vida.

More than 30,000 fans gave a thunderous welcome to Jay-Z, who arrived via helicopter and performed hits like 99 Problems and A Hard Knock Life. "He brought Canada a hip hop show that will be talked about for a while," a fan proclaimed.

"To come up and here and get this much love, don't think I don't appreciate it," Jay-Z declared. "I appreciate each and every one of y'all out there."

At the Sounds Like PAPER party, sponsored by Converse, and featuring a special performance by cover-boy Pharrell Williams' band N.E.R.D. (and special guests Jermaine Dupri and Swizz Beatz), the kids were in a serious frenzy. It was a like a madhouse up in Santos' Party House, as a fast-spreading, non-malevolent happy virus spread throughout the room.


Nas’ Untitled album release party went down at Red Bull Space. LL Cool J, Fabulous, Jermaine Dupri, Top Model reject, Keenya and Fonzworth Bentley, among others were all in the building.

NEWS: KANYE WEST, N.E.R.D. & WYCLEF TO PERFORM AT DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION

Does Hip-hop really have a place in polictics? Seems that ways. Hip- Hop heavy weights Kanye West, N.E.R.D and Wyclef Jean have been selected to perform at the Democratic National Convention next month in Denver, Colorado. These politically vocal artists are hitting the stage to show their support for presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Other celebrities expected to make appearances are Ed Norton, Forest Whitaker, Scarlett Johansson, Warren Beatty and Ben Affleck.

N*E*R*D stopped by to premiere their video for the latest single, Spaz.

Timbaland showed his support for Keri Hilson as she dropped the video for her debut single, Energy.

The Simmons Family make their return to another season of reality television series Run’s House tonight @ 10 PM.

Fonzworth Bentley promotes his new show which premiered last night.

One of the reasons N.E.R.D works so well as a complete band rather than just an experimental Hip Hop group is their spirited, high energy live shows that channel the Sex Pistols just as much as Run DMC. That same energy was realized in full force on the group’s third album Seeing Sounds. Just about every song on the album sounded like it could start a cipher session just as fast as it could a mosh pit right next to the b-boys. Therefore, it is not surprising that the group chooses live performance for the visual aspect of their music. Spaz stands out as a track on the album that easily meshes Chad’s crunching guitars and break beats to compliment Pharrell’s falsetto voice and Shae’s braggadocios rhymes. The video features the band working the crowd into frenzy in what appears to be actual footage from a live show.

Pharrell's BBC | Ice Cream Launch in London

Pharrell Williams hosted an exclusive bash to launch the new season of his lines Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream at Harvey Nichols in London last night. Many items sold out before the event. The dress code was relaxed, with everything from jeans and tees to Chanel handbags in evidence, while many of the guests showed off pieces from previous seasons of the megastars line. London's elite were out in full force – and it’s no surprise considering N*E*R*D performed for the crowd. Mischa Barton was one of the top guests at the bash. "I really love his embroidery," she confided. "His attention to detail is just incredible."

New Music: N.E.R.D. and Lil' Wayne Feat. Jay-Z

Tomorrow is a big day in music - with the release of N.E.R.D. 's Seeing Sounds and the highly anticipated, Carter III, both dropping. So just in time for new music Tuesday I'm giving you two tracks you're sure to rock to. First up is a bonus joint off of the Japan release of Seeing Sounds, called Lazer Gun and second is that bangin' new Lil Wayne feat. Jay-Z, Mr. Carter. 

N.E.R.D Concert/Release Party

N.E.R.D. got it rockin last night in an exclusive concert/ record release party at the Roosevelt Hotel in LA. The event was sponsored by Zune, in conjunction with their new album Seeing Sounds.

While Nicole Richie snuck past the press line to catch up with fellow musician Chad Hugo, Pharrell was more than happy to talk about his current business ventures. “I don’t have an empire, but I’m humbly working towards building something,” the music whiz kid said of his own foray into fashion, music and production.

Other guests included Snoop Dogg and DJ Samantha Ronson on the 1's and 2's.

Hype Williams to work on N.E.R.D. film

Famed music video director Hype Williams, whose talent has been behind some of hip-hop’s most memorable videos, will put his camera work at the service of N.E.R.D. for a film that will be, in the words of front-man Pharrell Williams, “like The Beatles’s A Hard Day’s Night.”

The feature, slated for a December 2008 release, will trace the band’s evolution from the studio to the stage. Williams’ first full-length feature was 1998’s Belly and his music video catalogue includes Busta Rhymes’ “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See”, Nas’ “If I Ruled The World”, and N.E.R.D.’s “Rock Star,” among dozens of others.

N.E.R.D.’s new album Seeing Sounds is due for release June 9.
