OUR THEORY ABOUT RIHANNA'S AMA OUTFIT

Earlier this week the divas gathered together to sing, dance, and give/receive American Music Awards. Lady Gaga didn't win an award, but she won in terms of stage performance and wardrobe, if you ask us. Rihanna, perhaps feeling the Gaga pressure or a little inspiration from the Fifth Element, attempted to raise her fashion game by wearing a bodysuit (which by the way, doesn't classify as clothing) consisting only of thin white pieces of fabric.

THIS YEAR'S VMAs TO BE A DIVA FASHION BATTLE

Beyoncé and Lady Gaga each earned nine nominations, including one for Video of the Year — Bey for "Single Ladies" and Gaga for "Poker Face." It's black leotards and a silver glove versus pleather bodysuits in and a silver face chain. And then there's the sartorial battle to be waged on the red carpet and in any live performances they may do. If Beyoncé wants to top Gaga, she's going to have to do better than strapping a train around her waist.

THE GRAMMY'S JUST GOT GOOD

The Grammy Awards vowed several years ago to try to update the image of the annual music-industry awards buffet. And while the Recording Academy has made great strides in spicing up the show with more contemporary artists and performances, 2009 is shaping up to be the year that the Grammys go IN. It was announced this morning that joining the performance roster for the February 8 show is Katy Perry, Lil' Wayne, Coldplay, and Jennifer Hudson. The icing on the cake however, is a pair of hip-hop performances: one featuring T.I. and Justin Timberlake, and another, featuring the all-star cast of the hit “Swagga Like Us” - Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne, T.I. and Kanye West. Wayne and Rihanna have also been drafted as part of the ad blitz to drum up excitement for the show, the Los Angeles Times reports.

LIL' WAYNE SET TO BE FEATURE PERFORMER AT THE GRAMMY'S

Lil' Wayne will rock the stage at this years' Grammy Awards. He's racked up eight nominations this year (the most by any artist) which includes Song of the Year, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group and the coveted Album of the Year . The 51st annual Grammy Awards will air live from the Staples Center on February 8 on CBS.

NO SURPRISES HERE | LIL' WAYNE LEADS IN AMA NOMS

The American Music Awards will air November 23rd at 8pm on ABC and it looks like Lil Wayne leads the pack being nominated for 3 awards including Artist Of The Year, Favorite Male Artist as well as Favorite Album-Rap/Hip-Hop” for his “Tha Carter III.” In that last category, Weezy goes up against Kanye West (”Graduation”) and Jay-Z (”American Gangster”). Kanye West and Lil Wayne will also go against each other in the “Favorite Male Artist” category.

THE 2008 ALMA AWARDS

The stars (and Ashley Tisdale) stepped out last night to attend the 2008 ALMA Awards in Pasadena, CA.

Gaining more A-list calibur by the year, big names like host Eva Longoria, Jessica Alba, Paula Abdul, and America Ferrera were on hand to lend some star power to the ceremony.

Eva was not just the host of the awards, but also the executive producer of the event which celebrates the outstanding artistic achievements of Latinos in motion pictures, TV and music.

Of the star-studded affair, fashion guru Steven Cojocaru told Variety: “For the Almas this year, the word is sex. And it’s absolutely glamorous. The Latin stars really know how to dress up. They’re not afraid of their sexuality. And they’ve got the perfect host in Eva. That’s glamour.”

EVENT CHIC: 2008 ESPY AWARDS

It was all all eyes on David and Victoria Beckham yesterday as the uber-photogenic couple attended the 2008 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles.

While Posh beat the heat in a buttery yellow Roland Mouret dress, oversized sunglasses and a gorgeous up’ do, Becks was to die for in a three-piece suit.

Hosted by Justin Timberlake and airing on July 20, the 16th annual ESPY Awards honors the dopest star athletes and most memorable moments from the past year. Major nods this year include those up for Best Male Athlete: Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady and Alex Rodriguez. Nominees for Best Female Athlete include Danica Patrick, Lorena Ochoa, Candace Parker and Lindsey Vonn.

A-list attendees at the star-studded show included Sophia Bush, the newly engaged, Adriana Lima, Tocarra Jones, Forrest Whitaker and Nicole Murphy.

Shouts to Strahan, Pierce and Garnett... These boys really did the damn thing this year.

BET Awards 2008

As you know, the the 8th Annual BET Awards went down last night. Overall it was pretty dope with some memorable moments - nothing monumental.

The much hyped Beyonce, Usher and Lil’ Wayne performance proved to be a non-event, leaving Ursh to give a lack-luster performance where he lip-synched through its entirety. (He didn't even bother to mix in a couple of live vocals.) Sub-par performances from Keyshia Cole (WTF. It's always fun to see Lil' Kim though) and Jeezy continued to disappoint. Even Kanye's appearance in Put On was sort of a let-down.

One of the highlights however, was seeing Alicia Keys performance as she invited with SWV, En Vogue, and TLC to join her. (I always love when she does her tribute to old school.) Another near-stellar performance was Ne-Yo's stage interpretation of his single, Closer. He really staked his claim as an entertainer last night. I don't know who wiped the floor with Usher more, him or Chris Brown. (Sidenote: Did anyone notice how the camera kept cutting to Rihanna when Ciara joined him on stage? Classic)

The crowd rose to their feet as Al Green performed his hits Let's Stay Together and Love and Happiness. And a seemingly sober, Lil' Wayne closed the show with T-Pain performing new singles Got Money, A Millie and his smash hit, Lollipop.

Tyra Banks Wins Daytime Emmy

Tyra Banks attended the 35th annual Daytime Emmy Awards in Hollywood on Friday. The supermodel-turned-TV-Host won her first ever Emmy for most informative talk show - spawning from the bathing suit photo incident earlier this year.

“I want to thank Oprah Winfrey for her inspiration,” Tyra said. “She is the queen. She will always be the queen.”

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith brought out the whole family for the Kit Kittredge: An American Girl movie premiere on Saturday in LA.

Rihanna attended the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards last night in Toronto, Canada. The 20-year-old princess of R&B won both MVMA awards that she was nominated for - Best International Video for Don’t Stop the Music and the MuchMusic.com Most Watched Video award for her smash hit Umbrella.
Whoopi Goldberg hosted the 62nd Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall last night. The big winner of the night, In the Heights, won for best musical. Pictured above actor Lin-Manuel Miranda and cast members celebrate.
