trend alert: KID CUDI ROCKS A (SKIRT) KILT

While Lady Gaga was in town performing her New Year’s Eve concert at the FontaineBleau Hotel, her old tour mate Kid Cudi was performing with John Legend the same night at the W for their New year’s Eve party on South Beach. And he wore a skirt.Yes, we know that it's technically called a “kilt” … but we’re not in Scotland, are we?

This of course isn't the first time we've seen this. Marc Jacobs rocked kilts for nearly a year after debuting his S|S 09 Collection in one. He was actually quoted as saying that they "make him happy." But what I wanna know is, how happy do they make you Kudi?? *Blank Stare* There's no need to fear, I don't foresee this being a trend that will catch wave anytime soon..

FROM STATUS SNEAKERS TO HIGH-FASHION: GO METALLIC!

Pictured: Dior Homme silver Velcro sneakers, $440 at Jeffrey New York; Creative Recreation snakeskin-embossed silver high-top sneakers, $210 at Barneys New York; Alejandro Ingelmo gold high-tops, $475 at Saks Fifth Avenue; Gucci silver lace-ups, $585 at Gucci.

Sneakers with metallic colorways have been all the rage for the past few seasons and every sneaker brand is jumping to dish out their perspective on the trend. (I can't lie they have definitely invaded my consciousness here lately...) Picking up on the silver and gold tones recently trotted out by Supra, Bape, Converse and others - fashion houses like Dior, Lanvin, Pierre Hardy and Gucci have come out with their interpretation of metallics in a multitude of styles.

The look is far from new, it broke into the mainstream last year after uber-trendsetter Jay-Z rocked a pair of gold Supra Skytops in the Rihanna video for Umbrella. Since then, it seems to have trickled down to the high-fashion labels. Sneakerheads may cringe at the sight of European fashion houses following American sporting-good brands, but if you are going to shell out some guap for sneakers, at least these look as if they’re worth it.

TREND ALERT: LES GEEK C'EST CHIC

We love it when celebs take part in the trends that are a bit more challenging than a new 'it' bag or latest sneaker craze. Their latest fashion infatuation is not about looking sexy or flashing cash - neither is it optician issued! They're looking cleverly cool in their new must-have, geek chic glasses - proving that those who dare - win!
