SHEER BOTTOMS AND CHANEL IMAN 'IN' AT DIOR

Images from the Christian Dior fall 2009 couture show, which walked yesterday in Paris, are trickling in. And it reveals John Galliano still loves those sheer bottoms. Sheer skirts also appeared in Galliano's fall 2008 couture and spring 2009 ready-to-wear shows for Dior. I'm interested in the black knee-length skirt Chanel Iman (far left) wore on the runway. Although you'll probably want one of their $8,895 couture slips to go with that.

HAS BERGDORF'S GOTTEN EVEN MORE EXCLUSIVE?

So, a Chanel gown in the window of Bergdorf Goodman is not a particularly big deal. There's practically one in there every week, so what's the big deal about this one? The text on the window reads:

Bergdorf's houses one of the most successful Chanel Boutiques anywhere, but what they and pretty much every other Chanel Boutique, whether freestanding or in-store, sell is deluxe Prêt à Porter, which, while wildly expensive and beautifully made, is not actually Couture. This gown is, and as such has to be custom made in Paris after a series of fittings for a price we would estimate to be in the high five figure range or higher.

So is Bergdorf's now taking orders for Chanel Haute Couture? ??

Well, no, according to our inquiry, but perhaps in efforts to counter the publicity blitz over the new Chanel Boutique at Saks, Bergdorf's has invited this gown for a rare visit to Fifth Avenue for the week or so, just to remind everyone who is top dog when it comes to opulence.

JANET AND JERMAINE ARRIVE AT GAUTIER HAUTE COUTURE

Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri hit the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall/Winter ‘09 Haute Couture show in Paris today. Janet is taking in the sights and sounds of Paris Fahion Week in hopes of gathering some inspiration for her own lingerie line. But first, she gears up for her world tour and will tape a yet-to-be-titled MTV reality show, where she will mentor a group of aspiring singers and dancers.

CHANEL IMAN DOES DIOR HAUTE COUTURE

This season John Galliano for Christian Dior brought us 1920's-style hats and silhouettes that cinched at the waists and then exaggerated their proportions coming off the body. He played with bondage-like materials (black patent, leather) paired them with virginesqu white chiffons. In Dior's world right now, women could be both dangerous and demure, rules with an iron clad fist. This is rightly couture. Galliano is where he is best. We are impressed. And seeing Chanel Iman on the runway is always a breath of fresh air.
